List of background characters

This page lists background characters from the story that haven’t quite earned a page of their own. If they appear a few more times, maybe they’ll graduate!

Students

These are one-off or recurring students, mostly from Roseville High School.

Aaron (cat)

An older student that Paulo admired and based his flirtatiousness on. Not to be confused with Aaron, Rachel's brother.

Alexa

An eighth grader. A cat who wears a flower in her hair, she took to Paulo's flirtations for a time. Unknown if she attends Roseville High School.

"Band Name Here"

A recurring background character, notable for his eyes covered by his bangs and a layered shirt reading "BAND NAME HERE." Friends with John and Gray Dog, and supports Jay's torment of Tess in A Different Side.

Carey

A student at Roseville High School. A cat girl with freckles and a ponytail, she doesn't talk to cheaters... like Mike.

"Calico"

A recurring background character, often seen with "Friendship Dog." As her nickname suggests, she is a calico-patterned cat with a white tuft of hair.

"Friendship Dog"

A recurring background character, often seen with "Calico." Most notable for handing out the friendship roses in Take Heart.

Jay

A white cat. He is one the students who haranged Tess during A Different Side, argued with Paulo and was dealt the hands of justice by Abbey. He is seen again at junior prom in Total Recall.

"Puffy Dog"

A recurring background character who is a friend of Courtney's. A glasses-wearing dog with puffy ears.

"Red Hat Guy"

A recurring background character who is a friend of Dylan's. Most notable in the chapter Clean Slate, and for his aforementioned red hat. Also a Discord emoji.

"Spaniel"

A recurring background character and one of the friends in Jasmine's group. Appears to be a Spaniel.

"Thespian Dog"

One of the drama club members who assisted with casting in Sue's play.

School faculty

These characters work at the various schools in Roseville.

CPII English Teacher

David and Katie's English teacher in their freshman year. Loves to remind his students they're in "English for dumbasses." Is distraught when David moves up a rank in his studies.

Dalmatian teacher

One of Paulo and David's teachers.

Environmental Club Teacher

The teacher in charge of the environmental club at Roseville High. Enjoys seeing the light leave students' eyes when she tells them they're going to clean Northern Highway all year long.

Fifth Grade Teacher

Mike, Lucy, Daisy, David and Paulo's teacher in the fifth grade.

Gym Teacher (Middle School)

The mustachioed gym teacher of Roseville Middle School, not as popular as his high school counterpart. Most notably takes part in Field Day, and introducing the pool to the students shortly before Lucy falls in it.

Headband Teacher

The main group's middle school teacher. Very kind to a fault and a bit scatterbrained. Was devastated when the group graduated.

Honors/AP English Teacher

Mike, Daisy, Abbey, and later David's English teacher. Is a fan of giving essay assignments by the dozen.

Janitor (High School)

A man with a mustache. Not much to write home about.

A teacher from Roseville Middle School. Most notable for being maimed in Field Day by David. Doesn't seem to hold much attachment to her students.

Track Coach

The coach in charge of the track team. Only seen from behind so far.

Vice Principal

The vice principal of Roseville High School. His appearance is based off a longtime reader's cat who had passed away.

Play characters

These characters appear in either Sue or Jessica’s plays.

"Albert"

In Jessica’s play. The younger brother of Morris, Albert was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. To punish Morris for not wanting to evict his house, Teagan orders Jayden to break Albert’s leg, rendering him unable to play baseball. Obviously meant to represent Rachel’s younger brother, Aaron, and what happened to him at the hands of Roger.

"Jayden"

In Jessica’s play. A jersey-wearing henchman at Teagan's beck and call, he'll do whatever it takes to make her happy - including breaking Albert's leg and sending salacious text messages to ruin Juniper Lumin's reputation. He is an unflattering caricature of Jordan and his blind devotion to Tiff.

"Juniper Lumin"

The lead role of Jessica's play. Juniper is a junior attorney and investigative reporter whose main goal is to uncover the corruption that lurks in the philantrophic Thatchit family, particularly of its poster girl, Teagan Thatchit. When Teagan gets the whole town to think Juniper is a sleaze with the snap of a finger, Juniper thinks her career is over, until Misty Beacon comes along. She is based off of Jessica, consciously or otherwise, and her arc is a parallel of Tess spreading false rumors around Roseville High of Jessica's promiscuity.

"Misty Beacon"

The love interest of Jessica's play. Misty Beacon is a bespectacled rookie reporter who has been investigating the Thachit family in a much quieter way than Juniper. Inspired by Juniper, Misty comes to her role model's aide at her lowest moment to help overturn the Thatchits - and perhaps find love along the way. She is meant to be a "flawless" interpretation of Jessica's girlfriend, Madison... a connection Madison herself did not make.

"Morris"

In Jessica's play. A weak-willed man who turns the other cheek no matter what, Morris tries to defend himself from being evicted by Teagan, only to fold immediately when Teagan's henchman, Jayden, breaks his brother, Albert's, leg. Morris always blames himself for everything, including happening to be poor. Meant to be an offensive take on Matt's tendency to be a "doormat."

"Rina"

In Jessica's play. The best friend of Juniper Lumin, Rina loves boys, and won't let Juniper (nor the audience) forget for even a moment. She likes to live frivolously and sees Juniper's job as a means for hot gossip, and believes all problems can be solved by showing some leg; when Juniper's reputation is ruined, Rina simply suggests to sleep with the police department. She is a cruel take on Rachel, and her having a "body count."

"Teagan Thatchit"

The antagonist of Jessica’s play. The daughter of the prestigious Thachits, a charitable family who frequently donates to good causes, only to get said money from evicting regular citizens and buying the silence of authority. When Juniper tries to catch her red-handed, Teagan gets her lackey to ruin her reputation. She is a hyperbolic representation of Tess from her bullying days, and as admitted by Jessica herself, is a bit of Tiff due to her hairstyle. The actress's real name is Marcie.
