Sue runs a thousand miles an hour toward her dreams - and occasionally straight into walls. Whether she's directing the next school theatrical masterpiece or campaigning for student council with the intensity of a presidential candidate, Sue's got enough determination to power a small city. Sure, her plans don't always work out exactly as intended, but hey, that's half the fun, right?

The self-proclaimed anti-drama activist who somehow always ends up neck-deep in it, Sue is (sometimes) the main group’s voice of reason. While managing her own insecurities about being right and being accepted, she channels her energy into fixing everyone else's problems—whether they want her to or not.

Personality
Personality
Sue is what you get when you combine a theater kid's drama, a student council president's ambition, and a dungeon master's strategic mind into one unstoppable force of nature. She's the friend who shows up to a group project with color-coded binders and enough enthusiasm to power a small city. While her take-charge attitude and tendency to meddle in others' affairs (especially anything involving Mike and Lucy) can sometimes rub people the wrong way, it all comes from a genuine desire to help - even if her methods occasionally resemble a bull in an emotional china shop. Beneath her confident exterior lies a surprisingly vulnerable soul who struggles with feeling like an outsider, particularly when her geeky interests clash with her social aspirations. But that's what makes Sue so endearing - she's an overachiever who doesn't always achieve, a matchmaker whose own love life is a work in progress, and a natural leader who sometimes needs to be reminded that not everything needs her direction. Her fierce loyalty to her friends and unwavering sense of justice make her the person you want in your corner when things get tough, even if she might accidentally turn your simple problem into an elaborate five-act play with musical numbers.
Sue channels her problem-solving drive into big projects - coordinating SwordsVale gaming sessions, spearheading drama club productions, and even running for student council secretary in her sophomore year (though that particular campaign ended in defeat).

Her tendency to get involved in others' affairs often manifests in elaborate schemes. An active member of the drama club, Sue can kill two birds with one stone — crafting a script only she could be proud of to help heal a rift between her friends — just how helpful it was is up for discussion. That being said, when the indirect approach doesn't work as well as she planned, she will reach out directly to her friends to offer support and apologies.

Sue cares deeply about her friends, but she is often bogged down by two glaring insecurities: the need to be right, and the need to be accepted. Sue advocates for body positivity, only to declare "I.. I AM NOT!!" when Paulo calls her fat. She also butts heads with Paulo over the "correct" way to browse an art museum. Sue's longing for acceptance from her peers goes as far back as Out of the Frame, where she makes a club for being underappreciated, not even realizing she was already welcome at the lunch table. She's shaken by the idea that she might be considered a "loser," going as far as auditioning for the cheer squad to prove the idea wrong in Popularity Contest.

Despite her apparent aversion to "drama," Sue sure likes to stick her nose in other people's business. Sometimes she wants to play fix-it, such as her play in Curtain Call meant to repair Mike and Lucy's friendship. Other times, she's just particularly nosy, like how she interrogates Abbey on his relationship status with Jasmine in Moments Apart.

Sue is a European Burmese cat with tan fur, brown eyes, and long, straight hair. While she occasionally wears clothes, she always wears a holly necklace.

In the Volume One version of the comic, middle-school Sue wears a single-bead necklace, and her hair has not grown out. In the Omnibus version, Sue keeps this necklace, but she has straight hair cut into a bobbed hairstyle. She first wears the iconic mistletoe necklace in Feline Festivities, and has traded her old necklace for the mistletoe necklace by Under Pressure.
From middle school to the first semester of her freshman year, Sue sports a short and straight hairstyle cut into a bob, and wore a necklace with a round pendant. She first wears her iconic holly necklace in Feline Festivities, and by Under Pressure had traded in her old pendant for her notable holly necklace. Her bob begins to grow out in the Silvershore arc, and Sue has let it grow longer since.

During the Silvershore arc, Sue's blunt haircut starts to grow out into a fluffier bobbed hairstyle, and by her sophomore year, Sue's hair grows out into her recognizable long hairstyle.

Significant Events
Sue's journey through Roseville High has been marked by her tendency to insert herself into situations - sometimes helping, sometimes...not so much. Her first notable endeavor was creating a club for "neglected background characters” in Out of the Frame, though she quickly abandoned this project once she realized she was already welcome at the lunch table.

* Sue is an ambitious writer, penning a school play that she holds auditions for. She's very passionate about the project, working hard to craft the perfect script. Despite her writing skills, Sue struggles with stage fright and public speaking. When introducing her play to the school, she has trouble maintaining her energy and confidence.
Perhaps her most ambitious (and controversial) project came in Casting Call, where she took it upon herself to write and direct a play. The secret goal? Mending Mike and Lucy's fractured friendship. The results? Well, let's just say her theatrical talents might have been better applied elsewhere.
* When Abbey went full "zero tolerance" mode about bullying, Sue wasn't having any of that black-and-white nonsense. She straight-up called his approach "fascist" .
* Sue is an avid gamer, playing an MMORPG with her friend Stacy. She's very invested in the game, eagerly planning guild events and activities. Despite being mocked as a "loser" and a "geek" by some of the more popular girls, Sue is determined to prove them wrong. She even tries out for the cheerleading squad in an attempt to boost her social status.
* Sue starts a club for neglected background characters, hoping to give them a voice. This shows her desire for attention and recognition. However, the club quickly spirals out of her control, leading to an angry mob. Sue realizes her jealousy drove her to make poor decisions. [Chapter 36.1]
Master manipulator alert: She somehow convinced McCain to join the school trip just to even out the numbers. Never underestimate Sue's powers of persuasion!
* On a group trip, Sue takes charge after Mike and Lucy fall from a collapsing land bridge. She keeps the group focused on finding help and prevents further dangerous antics. This highlights Sue's leadership skills in a crisis.

Major Relationships
Not one to be discouraged, Sue later threw her hat into student council politics in Feline Filibuster, running for secretary against Abbey (and later Daisy). Despite her best efforts, she proved no match for Paulo's enthusiastic campaigning for Daisy.

Amaya
When crisis struck in Breaking Up, Sue showed her more direct leadership skills. While others hesitated to check on Lucy, Sue took charge and knocked on her door.
Amaya is Sue's longtime best friend. A silent and proud support, Amaya and Sue share a lot in common - SwordsVale, theater, garage sale hopping(ref), and more. Even though Amaya chooses to be mute, Sue is able to communicate with her regardless; when asked how the two of them even chat, Sue responds "She's far more fun than you'll ever be."(ref) She's even willing to step aside to let Amaya have Mike back when he was a hot button item(ref). Now that's what I call friendship!

Lucy
More recently, Sue has shown both growth and vulnerability. She made peace with her past actions by apologizing to Lucy in It's All in the Mind, finally addressing the guilt she carried over potentially damaging Mike and Lucy's relationship. Her insecurities came to the forefront in Popularity Contest, where she was so determined to prove she wasn't a "loser" to fellow SwordsVale player Stacy that she auditioned for the cheer squad - only to end up with a broken leg for her troubles.
Lucy and Sue's friendship is the kind that survives everything - including Sue's well-intentioned, yet often disastrous, attempts to "help." Whether she's offering a shoulder to cry on after the bridge incident , trying to play matchmaker through questionable casting decisions , or even taking Lucy out to trick or treat(ref), Sue's always there for Lucy, even if her methods are... creative. Their bond only grows stronger after Lucy returns from private school, proving that sometimes the best friends are the ones who stick around even when things get messy .

Mike
Her frustration with drama reached a boiling point during Witch Hunt, where she specifically invited Lucy - and only Lucy - to go trick-or-treating. When Mike inevitably picked a fight with Paulo and Daisy, Sue finally snapped, yelling "Does EVERY one of these outings have to end up in a screaming match?!"
Sue's relationship with Mike is like trying to help a friend who insists they don't need directions: frustrating, but ultimately coming from a place of care. She's there searching frantically when he falls from the bridge. , but also isn't afraid to call him out when he's being difficult about his relationship drama . Classic Sue - always trying to fix things, even when Mike won't make it easy. She was one of the many girls who once harbored feelings for Mike, but the thought alone now is horrifying to her(ref).

These Girlies Be Hanging Out

Paulo
Amaya
Sue and Paulo have a contentious relationship, with Paulo often mocking and antagonizing her. In "Casting Call", Paulo interrupts Sue's play rehearsal to ridicule her efforts and the group's dedication to the project. When Sue is hurt by Stacy ignoring her in "Popularity Contest", Paulo takes the opportunity to further insult her, calling her a "loser." Despite their friction, they coexist within the same friend group, as seen during Lucy's surprise party planning .
Amaya is Sue's longtime best friend. A silent and proud support, Amaya and Sue share a lot in common: SwordsVale, theater, garage sale hopping, and more. Even though Amaya chooses to be mute, Sue is able to communicate with her regardless; when asked how the two of them even chat, Sue responds "She's far more fun than you'll ever be." She was even willing to step aside to let Amaya have Mike back when he was a hot button item.

Minor Relationships
Lucy
Sue and Lucy are particularly close, enough for Lucy to trust Sue to carry Yashy for her in Search and Rescue and Mischief Night. Sue's always there for Lucy during the good times, but her time to shine tends to arrive when Lucy is struggling; when everyone finds out Sandy is real, Sue offers to buy Lucy a slushie, reminding Lucy "Mike's not your only friend, you know." Sue's grandest gesture to Lucy was the play she wrote to mend Lucy and Mike's friendship, which turned out to be disastrous; Lucy leaves Roseville shortly after.

Stacy
Upon Lucy's return to Roseville, Sue has been putting in the effort to be more observant. She doesn't pry when Lucy doesn't want to recall her time away, and shoos away Paulo when Lucy doesn't want to sit at the lunch table. As it turns out, Sue had been weighed down by guilt, feeling she was the one who ruined Mike and Lucy's friendship. Despite it all, the two still get along, if Lucy being convinced by Sue to go trick-or-treating in Witch Hunt is anything to go by.
Picture this: two best friends united by their love of virtual dragon-slaying in SwordsVale, torn apart by the age-old enemy of genuine friendship - high school politics. When Stacy starts playing the popularity game and leaves Sue hanging, it hits harder than a critical hit in their favorite MMORPG. But here's the thing about real friendship - it can survive a few failed saving throws. Through some honest conversations and genuine soul-searching, these two manage to find their way back to each other without having to sacrifice who they are .

Jessica and Rachel
Sue is also the only person to call Lucy by the nickname "Elle."
In a surprising twist that breaks every teen movie stereotype ever, when Sue tries out for cheerleading, Jessica and Rachel actually turn out to be... nice? While Katie's busy playing the "you can't sit with us" card, these two welcome Sue with open arms, proving that sometimes the popular crowd can surprise you .

McCain
Mike
Sue and McCain share a close bond, with McCain often acting as a voice of reason and support for Sue. In "Out of the Frame", they share a moment of vulnerability and mutual understanding, hinting at a growing romantic connection. He's there to offer support when her grand plans inevitably go sideways , and there's definitely something brewing between these two, though Sue doesn't care to admit it(ref). By her junior year, Sue mentions a breakup in "Everyday Life"(ref) - maybe things didn't work out...
As gifted kids who share a few things in common, Mike and Sue are friends whose notable feature is rarely having friction. Sue has always felt fondly about Mike, crying when he falls from a broken bridge in Search and Rescue, and pulling him into a tearful hug upon discovering he survived his fall. At one point, Sue made up part of the gaggle of fangirls surrounding Mike, vying to be his girl of choice in Prom Preparation, but those feelings now steer completely platonic. In fact, the idea of Mike confessing to her now makes her want to turn and run!

Augustus
Sue's attempt to mend things between Mike and Lucy turned out to be a disaster, but Sue still puts in the work to be a good friend to Mike, even if it requires being a bit nosy. When Mike slams Paulo's head into the lunch tray in High Expectations, Sue runs after Mike to find out what's wrong. Even Sue has her own limits, though; when Mike turns on her, she walks away, saying "I'm sorry, but I can't let you speak to me like this."
Susan and the Creepnado

Paulo
Sue and Paulo... coexist. Paulo never misses a chance to make fun of Sue: whether it's calling her play lame in Casting Call, insulting her cosplay in Guest of Honor, or reassuring her she is indeed a "loser" when Stacy snubs her in Popularity Contest, he loves a chance to put Sue down. In spite of this, Sue doesn't shy away from biting back; she has particularly scathing things to say about Paulo in Behind Closed Doors. She acknowledges that she doesn't reserve these things to say away from Paulo, going on to say "Oh, I'm ALWAYS glad to tell him he's a moron to his FACE. He knows how I feel.".

While most of their quibbling is surface-level insults, Critical Hit digs into some sore spots — Sue criticizes Paulo's dismissal of the art museum, extending it to his attitude toward courting Lucy. Paulo shoots back at her that "at least he doesn't have to go around... pretending like [he] knew already." Despite their shared vitriol, they can manage to ignore the other, such as during Daisy's birthday party in Moments Apart.

Abbey
Sue and Abbey passively got along until their differing school politics came to light in Feline Filibuster. While debating Abbey for the role of school council secretary, Sue is appalled to learn Abbey's method of handling bullying would be expulsion, claiming his view for the school would be "a fascist Roseville dictatorship." She debates him into having a nervous breakdown, only to ultimately lose to him when Daisy temporarily takes over his campaign on his behalf.

Despite how strongly the two disagree on things, Sue gets along with Abbey just fine when playing SwordsVale. Even outside of games, Sue actually does care for Abbey's well-being; reminding him "it's not [his] life to live now" when it comes to protecting Daisy from Paulo in Moments Apart, and checking on him when his drunk girlfriend confessed to Mike in Happy Hour.

Minor relationships
McCain
Sue and McCain shared a close bond, with McCain often acting as a voice of reason and support for Sue. In Out of the Frame, they share a moment of romantic(?) silence. Something brewed between the two of them — though Sue doesn't care to admit it — when asked about it, she snipes "maybe it's in the FAQ because it's none of your business."

In fact, Sue and McCain did date for some period of time! As the comic evolved, McCain's gimmick stuck out like a sore thumb, and he was relegated to minor appearances to keep him in readers' memory in order to deliver the punchline. Demands on why McCain was rarely present, however, led to the relationship's end and McCain's departure from the comic. This is referenced in Everyday Life, where Sue mentions breaking up with her boyfriend over the summer.

Stacy
Sue and Stacy are fair-weather friends, their best weather being when organizing for and playing SwordsVale, where Stacy can be nerdy in private. A storm brews whenever Stacy's secret passions threaten her social standing, though; in Popularity Contest, Stacy snubs Sue when she calls out to her and pretends to not know her when Sue confronts her directly. Sue threatens to kick Stacy from their SwordsVale guild and questions the value of Stacy's social status, and it takes Sue breaking a leg for Stacy to consider her point of view. Outside this incident, the two get along fairly well, cosplaying together in Guest of Honor and Sue occasionally reviewing Stacy's poetry.

Jessica
Both active members in the drama club, Jessica and Sue are friends who both enjoy the written word. They bicker with each other when it comes to casting choices, but otherwise get along just fine. When Sue tries out for the cheer squad in Popularity Contest, Jessica says she "looks KILLER" and is nothing but supportive about Sue's new path.

Sandy
Sue knows Sandy from photos in a nerdy magazine, as well as being vaguely familiar with her as Mike's long-distance girlfriend. They went to school together back in the day, but the pin-up was evidently much more memorable.

The self-proclaimed anti-drama activist who somehow always ends up neck-deep in it, Sue is (sometimes) the main group’s voice of reason. While managing her own insecurities about being right and being accepted, she channels her energy into fixing everyone else's problems—whether they want her to or not.

Personality

Sue channels her problem-solving drive into big projects - coordinating SwordsVale gaming sessions, spearheading drama club productions, and even running for student council secretary in her sophomore year (though that particular campaign ended in defeat).[1]

Her tendency to get involved in others' affairs often manifests in elaborate schemes. An active member of the drama club, Sue can kill two birds with one stone — crafting a script only she could be proud of to help heal a rift between her friends — just how helpful it was is up for discussion.[2] That being said, when the indirect approach doesn't work as well as she planned, she will reach out directly to her friends to offer support and apologies.[3][4]

Sue cares deeply about her friends, but she is often bogged down by two glaring insecurities: the need to be right, and the need to be accepted. Sue advocates for body positivity, only to declare "I.. I AM NOT!!" when Paulo calls her fat.[5] She also butts heads with Paulo over the "correct" way to browse an art museum.[6] Sue's longing for acceptance from her peers goes as far back as Out of the Frame, where she makes a club for being underappreciated, not even realizing she was already welcome at the lunch table.[7] She's shaken by the idea that she might be considered a "loser,"[8] going as far as auditioning for the cheer squad to prove the idea wrong in Popularity Contest.

Despite her apparent aversion to "drama," Sue sure likes to stick her nose in other people's business. Sometimes she wants to play fix-it, such as her play in Curtain Call meant to repair Mike and Lucy's friendship. Other times, she's just particularly nosy, like how she interrogates Abbey on his relationship status with Jasmine in Moments Apart.[9]

Appearance

Sue is a European Burmese cat[10] with tan fur, brown eyes, and long, straight hair. While she occasionally wears clothes, she always wears a holly necklace.

Significant events

Sue's journey through Roseville High has been marked by her tendency to insert herself into situations - sometimes helping, sometimes...not so much. Her first notable endeavor was creating a club for "neglected background characters” in Out of the Frame, though she quickly abandoned this project once she realized she was already welcome at the lunch table.[7]

Perhaps her most ambitious (and controversial) project came in Casting Call, where she took it upon herself to write and direct a play. The secret goal? Mending Mike and Lucy's fractured friendship. The results? Well, let's just say her theatrical talents might have been better applied elsewhere.[2]

Not one to be discouraged, Sue later threw her hat into student council politics in Feline Filibuster, running for secretary against Abbey (and later Daisy). Despite her best efforts, she proved no match for Paulo's enthusiastic campaigning for Daisy.[11]

When crisis struck in Breaking Up, Sue showed her more direct leadership skills. While others hesitated to check on Lucy, Sue took charge and knocked on her door.[12]

More recently, Sue has shown both growth and vulnerability. She made peace with her past actions by apologizing to Lucy in It's All in the Mind, finally addressing the guilt she carried over potentially damaging Mike and Lucy's relationship.[13] Her insecurities came to the forefront in Popularity Contest, where she was so determined to prove she wasn't a "loser" to fellow SwordsVale player Stacy that she auditioned for the cheer squad[14] - only to end up with a broken leg for her troubles.[15]

Her frustration with drama reached a boiling point during Witch Hunt, where she specifically invited Lucy - and only Lucy - to go trick-or-treating.[16] When Mike inevitably picked a fight with Paulo and Daisy, Sue finally snapped, yelling "Does EVERY one of these outings have to end up in a screaming match?!"[17]

Major relationships

Amaya

Amaya is Sue's longtime best friend. A silent and proud support, Amaya and Sue share a lot in common: SwordsVale, theater, garage sale hopping[18], and more. Even though Amaya chooses to be mute, Sue is able to communicate with her regardless; when asked how the two of them even chat, Sue responds "She's far more fun than you'll ever be."[19] She was even willing to step aside to let Amaya have Mike back when he was a hot button item.[20]

Lucy

Sue hugs Lucy.

Sue and Lucy are particularly close, enough for Lucy to trust Sue to carry Yashy for her in Search and Rescue[21] and Mischief Night.[22] Sue's always there for Lucy during the good times, but her time to shine tends to arrive when Lucy is struggling; when everyone finds out Sandy is real, Sue offers to buy Lucy a slushie, reminding Lucy "Mike's not your only friend, you know."[23] Sue's grandest gesture to Lucy was the play she wrote to mend Lucy and Mike's friendship,[2] which turned out to be disastrous; Lucy leaves Roseville shortly after.

Upon Lucy's return to Roseville, Sue has been putting in the effort to be more observant. She doesn't pry when Lucy doesn't want to recall her time away,[24] and shoos away Paulo when Lucy doesn't want to sit at the lunch table.[25] As it turns out, Sue had been weighed down by guilt, feeling she was the one who ruined Mike and Lucy's friendship.[26] Despite it all, the two still get along, if Lucy being convinced by Sue to go trick-or-treating in Witch Hunt is anything to go by.

Sue is also the only person to call Lucy by the nickname "Elle."[27]

Mike

As gifted kids who share a few things in common, Mike and Sue are friends whose notable feature is rarely having friction. Sue has always felt fondly about Mike, crying when he falls from a broken bridge in Search and Rescue, and pulling him into a tearful hug upon discovering he survived his fall.[28] At one point, Sue made up part of the gaggle of fangirls surrounding Mike, vying to be his girl of choice in Prom Preparation,[29] but those feelings now steer completely platonic. In fact, the idea of Mike confessing to her now makes her want to turn and run![30]

Sue's attempt to mend things between Mike and Lucy turned out to be a disaster, but Sue still puts in the work to be a good friend to Mike, even if it requires being a bit nosy. When Mike slams Paulo's head into the lunch tray in High Expectations, Sue runs after Mike to find out what's wrong.[31] Even Sue has her own limits, though; when Mike turns on her, she walks away, saying "I'm sorry, but I can't let you speak to me like this."[32]

Paulo

Sue and Paulo yell at each other.

Sue and Paulo... coexist. Paulo never misses a chance to make fun of Sue: whether it's calling her play lame in Casting Call,[33] insulting her cosplay in Guest of Honor,[34] or reassuring her she is indeed a "loser" when Stacy snubs her in Popularity Contest,[35] he loves a chance to put Sue down. He knows how I feel.".[36]

While most of their quibbling is surface-level insults, Critical Hit digs into some sore spots — Sue criticizes Paulo's dismissal of the art museum, extending it to his attitude toward courting Lucy.[37] Paulo shoots back at her that "at least he doesn't have to go around... pretending like [he] knew already."[38] Despite their shared vitriol, they can manage to ignore the other, such as during Daisy's birthday party in Moments Apart.

Abbey

Sue and Abbey passively got along until their differing school politics came to light in Feline Filibuster. While debating Abbey for the role of school council secretary, Sue is appalled to learn Abbey's method of handling bullying would be expulsion,[39] claiming his view for the school would be "a fascist Roseville dictatorship."[40] She debates him into having a nervous breakdown,[41] only to ultimately lose to him when Daisy temporarily takes over his campaign on his behalf.[42]

Despite how strongly the two disagree on things, Sue gets along with Abbey just fine when playing SwordsVale. Even outside of games, Sue actually does care for Abbey's well-being; reminding him "it's not [his] life to live now" when it comes to protecting Daisy from Paulo in Moments Apart[43], and checking on him when his drunk girlfriend confessed to Mike in Happy Hour.[44]

Minor relationships

McCain

Sue and McCain share some kind of moment...

Sue and McCain shared a close bond, with McCain often acting as a voice of reason and support for Sue. In Out of the Frame, they share a moment of romantic(?) silence.[45] Something brewed between the two of them — though Sue doesn't care to admit it — when asked about it, she snipes "maybe it's in the FAQ because it's none of your business."[46]

In fact, Sue and McCain did date for some period of time! As the comic evolved, McCain's gimmick stuck out like a sore thumb, and he was relegated to minor appearances to keep him in readers' memory in order to deliver the punchline. Demands on why McCain was rarely present, however, led to the relationship's end and McCain's departure from the comic.[47] This is referenced in Everyday Life, where Sue mentions breaking up with her boyfriend over the summer.[48]

Stacy

Sue and Stacy hanging out.

Sue threatens to kick Stacy from their SwordsVale guild and questions the value of Stacy's social status,[49] and it takes Sue breaking a leg for Stacy to consider her point of view.[50] Outside this incident, the two get along fairly well, cosplaying together in Guest of Honor[51] and Sue occasionally reviewing Stacy's poetry.[52]

Jessica

Both active members in the drama club, Jessica and Sue are friends who both enjoy the written word. They bicker with each other when it comes to casting choices,[53] but otherwise get along just fine. When Sue tries out for the cheer squad in Popularity Contest, Jessica says she "looks KILLER"[54] and is nothing but supportive about Sue's new path.

Sandy

Sue knows Sandy from photos in a nerdy magazine, as well as being vaguely familiar with her as Mike's long-distance girlfriend. They went to school together back in the day, but the pin-up was evidently much more memorable.[55]
