Picture Perfect is a Bittersweet Club International-exclusive comic: a static version of the interactive story originally built for the old BCB iPhone app. Mike and Lucy take a stroll through the park, where a little boy, a slice of bread and some very unforgiving geese are waiting for them.

Partial synopsis

Mike and Lucy are walking through the park when Lucy stops to watch a little boy feeding bread to baby geese beside a pond. The boy yanks the bread away and taunts them with “SIKE! Get your own bread!” The geese retaliate as one clamps onto his shirt and the others close in. They pile onto the boy until he is face-down in the grass, and one eats the bread anyway.[1]

While Lucy howls with laughter, Mike, appalled, calls her “a real bully,” and storms in to rescue the boy. The geese swarm Mike too while Lucy keeps laughing.[1]

The geese turn out to be just the warm-up, though. Mike and Lucy aren’t the only ones spending their afternoon in the park, and the comic hasn’t even gotten around to the part its title is about.

Trivia & observations

A young cat boy lies face-down in the grass while geese climb over him and one eats the abandoned slice of bread.
The geese get their own bread after all.
  • The original app asked readers to interact with their phones and used shutter sounds, screen flashes and vibrations, but it has since been discontinued. The BCI version marks its interactive sequences with annotations, though the opening note says they are not comprehensive.[1]
  • At least one reader struggled with an accelerometer-based interaction. Oliver recommended putting the phone on a table “for a sure shot,” since “the accelerometer varies a lot between iPhones.”[2]
  • A bug in the app once let readers unlock Picture Perfect without paying. Oliver first responded with “NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”[3] The next day, he added, “if you don’t have the money and you’re smart enough to figure out a way to unlock it, who’s stopping you? I think it’s fine.”[4]
